5 Shows You Should Watch if You Are Interested in Architecture!

Posted on June 12, 2022February 7, 2022 By Gerrard

Learning about architecture can be fun if you have the time and are already a fan of architecture. For others, it might seem like mission impossible, but with books, precisely drawn lines and measurements.

Yet, even architects have to get their ideas somewhere. Some read books, others read architecture magazines. Why not go with the flow and just find shows which can help you get inspired and get great architecture tips. Here are the best shows to watch if you like architecture.

Altered Carbon

Set in a future that has people living almost forever, in a sense, this show can give an architect amazing ideas. We all like the cyberpunk genre and when there is a huge discrepancy between the rich and the poor, the world should reflect that. Altered Carbon does a great job of showing us what that difference looks like in real life. It also shows us what urban areas in a futuristic cyberpunk world might look like.

Mad Men

An advertising company in the 60s and 70s is bound to have a tumultuous path. It is a path that shows why the people working in the company can be classified as mad men. As things change during the decades, so does the architecture and design. This is so neatly woven into the story of the series, that designers and architects can simply kick back and watch as the world change. There is a lot of research involved in the time periods covered in the show. Subtle changes are present, which is what happened during the said time periods.

Westworld

Westworld is set in the modern world, but also in the wild west period, in a sense. The shift and dramatic difference between the two takes some time to adapt. As people go to experience the wild west in its raw form, you can see the change that they have while experiencing this world, as well as what they bring with them. The world of the rich can also be explored in this show, what money can purchase, not to mention the concept of slavery and ownership.

Grand Designs

This show deals with amazingly designed homes and follows the process of designing a home, as well as how it is brought to life through planning and construction. The show has been around since 1999, giving architects a lot of content to browse though, which means that everybody should find something that inspires them. Being a show, there is some pomp, but the design and architecture is important, which is why the show stands out.

Abstract: The Art of Design

This is a documentary series on Netflix, which takes us through the process of designing a lot of things. There is also architecture design present, which should be interesting to architects.

One can also explore other styles of design, which have nothing to do with buildings. The artistic and practical process can be applied to architecture, and it is always good to get out of one’s comfort zone.

Shows and movies that deal with design and architecture are not that rare. One just needs to pay attention to the design and architecture and inspiration should be on its way. With the above mentioned shows and movie, there should be an abundance of inspiration, stemming from different approaches and styles of design.
